This day refers to the I.D. tags that we attach to our pet’s collars – or to the MICROCHIP that the vet inserts under our pet’s skin.
We use both at our house because accidents happen and we’re always concerned about their safety. Sometimes the collar gets wiggled out of,
or caught on something and breaks away (a “break away” is special collar we recommend that breaks if our dog or cat accidentally gets caught on something).
IF our dog or cat gets loose and is out and about, it’s much easier and faster for a neighbor to look at the I.D. tag, call our pet by name and call us at the phone number on the tag. If he’s found by a concerned pet lover, and there’s no I.D. tag, they know they can go to the nearest vet who can scan to see if the dog or cat has a chip. The vet gets our information from the code in the chip.
So today’s the day to check and make sure our pets have their tags, that their collars are in good shape and if we don’t have Microchips that we look for a Vet that is having a special deal on inserting chips today. Lots of them do offer a special because they know this is National Pet Tag Day!
