It was officially summer on the 21st but really it’s the day your child’s school gets out for the summer. They have more time to schedule and it’s important to give them time to do nothing! We get out the calendar (or create one ourselves out of paper) and start scheduling in the special days in the month and the activities we have planned.
We also have a daily schedule we try not to change. Wake up – 15 minutes to dress. Then make bed, pick up room, wash up, brush teeth, etc. Eat Breakfast. Quiet Time is in late morning or late afternoon depending on activities that day. Sometimes Quiet Time is Read to Pet time.
Here’s a sample of the calendar for 10 year old Sam. Note weekends we try to let kids work out themselves unless it’s a family activity or birthdays. Since there are horses to exercise, there’s usually a trail ride.
Monday evenings we try not to schedule anything. There’s a movie night on Tuesday, which could be at the dollar theater if there’s a good movie, or we alternate movies at home with 2 other families. Fridays are always dinners out, Mom doesn’t cook on Fridays. Library night is every other Tuesday.
Share your family activities for the summer and we’ll add to our BEST SUMMER ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS & PETS list: http://kidoodlepets.com/activities/Best-Summer-Activities-for-Kids-and-Pets.php
