October brings autumn leaves, bon fires, homecomings, fall festivals and Halloween! It starts out on the first with National Fire Pup Day in honor of all Fire House dogs and the help they give firemen in educating school kids about fire safety. If any of you moms have time, it’s also National Homemade Cookies Day! Not to worry both kids and pets will be just as happy with store cookies if you’re too busy or it’s too hot to bake. National Taco day comes up on the 4th and the 5th brings National Do Something Nice Day.
Be sure to circle the 7th on your calendar, National Kids Day! There are 4 special weeks in October, 13 more National “days” 8 special pet “Months”s in October. It’s Adopt a Dog month and Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, National Book month (read to your pets!), National Pet Wellness month, National Animal Safety and Protection Month and Pizza month!
Kidoodlepets.com has their own special month, PUPIKINS Month – carving, painting or scrapbooking pumpkins that look like animals. If your kids make some we’ll post them on webpage. Look for Pupikins on the Home page on the 1st of October.
One of our favorite things about October is the Blessings of the Animals. Check the web for a local park, dog park, church or pet organization that’s having an Official Blessing and take the family. It’s definitely an experience that you will all enjoy. Blessings are usually held around the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4) or the week after but often occur any time during the month.
