It’s been over a week so we’re over the shock now. SNOW! In Southern California! Not in the mountains – in our back yard! We looked out the back windows early one morning, after a terrible windstorm the night before, and the grass was covered in white stuff! Only a week before that I’d read in the newspaper that the last time it snowed in San Diego was December 1967! At that time, we laughed and said it must have been a Disney trick, how could it snow so far south and so close to the ocean? A week later we weren’t laughing.
After the shock of seeing snow sinked in, we noticed we couldn’t see the horse corral – only 50 feet away! There was a HUGE eucalyptus tree completely obliterating it! Oh, my goodness! Where’s Biscuit?! Panic was setting in. Did the tree, which obviously fell on the stable, crush the stable on top of Biscuit? Shoes! Jackets! Quick! Everyone outside! The dogs were right behind. The cats weren’t. After one daughter crawled through the thick branches the news was “Biscuit is OK!” He was back in the far corner of the stable, very scared but not able to move. It took a couple hours to get it cleared enough to lead him out and load him into the horse trailer. A quick post on the neighborhood Facebook page explaining the problem, had resulted in several offers of a new stall for him to stay at until the tree service could clean up and we could get the stable and corral fixed.
Finally, after a hot meal and a little down time, it was time to go out in the snow and have some fun! Snowman! Snow Angels! Snowballs! The dogs were so invigorated and having so much fun it was time to join them! Then it was over to see how Biscuit liked his new stall and corral. After all, the pets are part of the family too.
