The Surprise Pony

WherTiny sprinkes 5 hourse do we begin in this crazy story? Pre-beginning: This blog (and web) is about connecting kids and pets. The more we model love and caring for pets the more likely our kids will love pets too. I readily admit I don’t know a lot about horses but I’ve learned, and blogged, some pretty amazing things I’ve learned from our family’s (now 6!) horses.

Beginning: About 8 months ago we got a Mini Pony, (actual breed of horse) as company for the Mustang Biscuit, who lives at the house. “Cupcake” is so adorable. She was a little hefty when we got her, we assumed that was due to her job entertaining kids at birthday parties and eating too many cupcakes.

The Vet came and pronounced her healthy. She loved racing around the equestrian ring so much that daughter nicknamed her Turbo.

It seemed like she was getting fatter. She was put on a diet. A Trainer came to examine her and said she needed more exercise. Later, the Furrier (horseshoe smith) agreed. Granddaughter started her jumping 4x4s one Sunday. Cupcake was reluctant but jumped.

6 a.m. Saturday 11/7- Daughter in kitchen looking toward stable yard. OMG! she screamed. “There’s an animal in the yard! Quick, come help!” She ran outside. I thought it was a Coyote or Bobcat! By the time I got to the back door daughter is yelling “call the vet, call the vet!” This is bad, I thought. Then came the words, “It’s a pony! It’s a pony!”

Before you think to yourself, “these people have to be the dumbest” you need to know it takes 11 months to gestate a horse. Little Cupcake was 3 months pregnant when we got her. At least 6 horse professionals had examined her. Everyone was Vet Exam for Sprinklesstupified – for about 10 seconds. Then it was celebration time! A new pony! She was so adorable. The vet (a different one) pronounced mother and daughter in good health. Granddaughter said her name is “Sprinkles” and the family is the “Bakers.”

Biscuit, Cupcake and Sprinkles are joined by Muffin, our cat – and 2 dogs who are not “bakers.”
