- DOGust is the fun name for August. It’s the Universal Birthday month for Rescued/Shelter Dogs (and Cats). Because we very rarely know when a rescue dog’s real birthday is, pet rescues have decided that if your dog (or cat) is without an official birth date, you can choose any day in August for their birthday. Then you have to celebrate it of course!
